uptown boy

last night Cash and I were driving home and "Uptown Girl" came on the radio. Without even realizing it I was bouncing on and off my brake pedal. Cash thought this was great fun and would laugh and when i stopped he rocked his head back and forth in his seat (code for more!). I just remember how much mother did this and how annoyed we used to get riding in the car - but now i have a new appreciation for this song.

Cash's First Birthday

Today is Cash's first birthday. I'll admit that i did get a little sad putting him to bed last night thinking that it would be the last night i put him to sleep as a baby (i know, he'll always be my baby, but you know what i mean). So today he turns one and we've really had a great year. We are so different from one year ago, beside the obvious Chandler and I have grown as individuals and as a team. I just think how timid Chandler was picking up his newborn - not exactly sure what to do. But now he doesn't even think twice before tending to Cash's needs. Chandler has turned out to be a great dad (not that i had any doubt). I think i've done a pretty good job at being a mom too. Sometimes i get frustrated and always regret overreacting to little things but all-in-all we've gotten through it and we've got Cash - a great little boy - to show for it.
Cash is an amazing child. He is cool and laid back. He loves his circle of friends (mommy, daddy, sylvia, family) and easily warms up to new people. This morning he really did just get up and walk across the room - i guess he felt it was time. So we are dealing with a toddler now people. It sometimes seems like he is having a complete conversation with us - we just don't know what he's saying. I am really looking forward to watching him grow.
He is getting some more teeth and has a bit of a cold so his birthday isn't all perfect. He is a snotty, coughy, drooly mess but we love him to death!

Cash Superstar

Besides being incredibly cute Cash is pretty smart :)
Stands alone
Walks a few steps
Says "Uh Oh" when something drops on the floor
Says "hello" when holding the phone to his ear (holds the phone to his ear)
Says "hat" when you hand him one of Chandler's baseball caps
Puts his shoes on his feet (can't actually put them on but holds them on top of his feet)
Squats - when you say "up" or "pop" or "peek" he will pop up and smile
repeats sounds
plays tug-of-war with Slider
EATS EVERYTHING (6 teeth, 2 bottom, 4 top)

all good things must end

As my 2 week "vacation" is coming to an end i need to prepare myself to get back into work mode. We had a great Christmas and New Years and 2009 is sure to bring great things. Cash had a nice Christmas with his parents. Grandma and Grandpa Martin couldn't come because there was record snowfall in Oregon and they couldn't get to the airport to fly and see us. So we spend Christmas morning just the 3 of us (plus Slider) and then went to Aunt Marilyn's for Christmas dinner. Cash got a bunch of amazing presents. He got a bicycle from the Wilsons and some great stuff from Sarah and Rick including his favorites, a telephone, a pig car and a building block farm. Grammy and Pop got him a really fun musical table and a Busy Zoo activity block. Santa is going to come again when the Martins come for a late Christmas next week.
Cash had his very first sleep over away from both of his parents on New Year's eve. He spent the night at Auntie Marilyn's while we went out to a friends house for a party. I put Cash down to sleep in Marilyn's crib at 7:30pm and he woke up at 7am the next morning and he and Marilyn at some eggs and waffles for breakfast. I came to get him a while later and he was in one piece and a happy little camper!
As if Christmas and New Years weren't enough, next we celebrate Cash's first birthday in a week. I can't believe my baby in ONE!! The Martin-seniors will be here so we'll probably just have a dinner and cake and sing happy birthday. Nothing big because Chandler and I believe that this will be the only year when we can get away with not having a big birthday party full of screaming kids!
We're still not sure what to get a one-year-old for his birthday but i think Cash will be fine with whatever shows up that day.
