copy cat

I think Cash is really smart. i know all parents say that but he really is! he is a little copy cat too. I realize that when he is playing in the living room i sit on the stairs to keep him from escaping up the stairs. Now he loves to come sit on the stairs beside me. He climbs up one or two steps and then turns around and sits there - it is really funny because he looks like a grown boy doing it.
I know he is a little quiet on Skype but he is really noisy now - even more than before. He repeats everything we say. We talk to Cash and he answers us (even though it is in his own language). In the morning we'll say, "Cash do you want to go downstairs to get some breakfast?" He'll say, "ok". its really cute.

Sylvia also recognizes how smart he is and recommends that we start introducing him to the potty. I am struggling with this because i think he is way too young. And it is hard to think that my baby is growing up enough to start potty training. To be honest, i hadn't even begun to think about potty training. I've not thought of it, read about it, googled it, nothing! I don't know why, i guess i am just one of those "it will come naturally" kind of parents - AND I would never pressure him to potty train and i certainly wouldn't threaten to tell everyone at his school if he peed his pants!!! So, i told Sylvia all this and she assures me that he is ready to at least start being around the potty. She is putting him on the potty for 1 minute each time she changes his diaper - just so it isn't foreign to him (i'm ok with this). She has a really good feeling for these sorts of things - it is her job after all. I realize there is a lot in it for her but it is also a lot of work so i don't think she would want to go down this road unless she felt everyone was ready. She's not moving fast - she said over the next year she'll be working on it. Anyway, there is nothing that we have to do at home for a while - just to be prepared and to not dress him in onesies anymore. The weather is really getting nice 70 this week so that isn't a problem.
Poor Baby Cash has a really, really, really bad diaper rash - to the point of a raw, scabby, bloody mess. I just glob the Vaseline on his tush hoping it wont stick to the diaper. He was really upset when i put him in the bath last night because i think it stung but then i think it started to feel better and he just squatted down so his bottom just sat in the water. He's so cute and hopefully he'll have a few more teeth to show you all in a few more weeks.

2 easy and good recipies for my sisters - and enough for left overs

Pot Roast Pacific
4 to 5lb chuck roast
2 to 3 tbs olive oil
4 cloves of garlic (i used minced)
1 cup pale sherry
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 tbs chopped fresh ginger
fresh ground pepper
2 green onions, thinly sliced
4 cloves (i use ground cloves)

rub roast with about 1 tablespoon of oil and minced garlic. place meat in glass dish. add sherry, soy, ginger, pepper, onion and cloves. turn meat to coat. cover and chill overnight. to cook, remove meat from marinade. save marinade. pat meat dry and brown well on all sides in some olive oil. transfer to crock pot. add 1/2 cup of reserved marinade. cover. cook on low for 7-8 hours until fork tender. transfer to platter to keep warm. add 1/2 cup more of marinade to pan juices. cook down until reduced. pour sauce over meat. I serve with white, steamed rice.
this is more of a recipe than i like but it is really good.

Really easy chicken pot pie (no measuring required and lots of options)
oil/butter
chicken breasts
carrots
onion
celery
potato
can of cream of chicken soup
can of chicken broth
salt/pepper
ground thyme or poultry season
bisquick & milk

with the small hand chopper thing that i'm sure mom has bought all of us, chop up carrots, onions, celery and potato (potato should be diced with a knife). i find that i like a higher ratio of carrots and celery to potato - the potatoes get heavy if you use too much. saute veggies in a little oil and butter in large frying pan. in another frying pan cook up diced chicken breast (season with salt and pepper) - i like to dice first and then cook but you can do either (or you can use rotiserie chicken and just add later).
after the chicken is cooked and the veggies are softened (but not mushy) add them together and add a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of chicken broth. turn up heat to combine. thicken with corn starch (i use about 2 tbs of starch:2 tbs water)and bring to a boil. i like to add some ground thyme, salt and pepper but you can also use poultry seasoning. while this is simmering, make biscuits. I use the drop buscuit recipe on the bisquick box but i guess you could even use buttermilk biscuits from the twist/pop-can. pour the veggie/chicken mixture into a baking dish (i find that a deeper dish is better than a shallow one because the biscuits will soak up some of the liquid) and pour/layer the biscuit mixture on top. bake at 450 until the biscuits are golden brown. ENJOY! i sort of made this up so you can try new things too. like if Chandler wasn't such a baby i would add frozen peas when i poured it into the baking dish.

molar schmolar

Cash is such a trooper. i realized tonight that he is totally getting his 1 year molars. Cash is a slow teether - or the teething process for him is a very slow one. I've known these bad boys were coming for quite some time now but they are finally right at the surface. He has woken up in the night for the past week or so and i figured that we would be seeing those teeth soon and tonight while i was brushing his teeth i saw the little white buds just below the surface. Cash isn't fussy or anything during this process - he just cries out every once and a while - nothing serious. He's one tough cookie. It will probably take another month for the teeth to actually break the skin...

too cute

Cash makes all sorts of sound effects now. He can "ROAR" like a lion when i show him a picture of one in a book. He also points and roars at just about anything on the pages of a book - oops. When he drives his cars around the floor he makes the sound of the engine which is pretty cute and i think something his daddy taught him. Also he likes to swing things around and make a swooshing noise.
The stairs have become a new form of amusement for our boy. He used to deal with the stairs pretty delicately - crawling up to them, stopping at the top and putting one leg over and turning around to go down. Now that he can walk he just goes full steam ahead, practically running, toward the top of the stairs and doesn't have any intention of stopping when he gets to the edge. I think he likes the fact that we chase him (evident by him squeeling with joy) but i can't not chase him to the top of the stairs...
Cash has been coming home with some pretty serious bite marks & teeth bruises from daycare lately (finger, hand, ear, arm). Turns out that one of the little boys has a pretty bad habit of biting (reinforced at home by parents who don't nip-it-in-the-bud) and yesterday it got ugly when he bit one of the little girls really hard (harder than to leave a teeth-mark buise? wow) So when we brought it up to Sylvia she said that she has called her social worker to discuss it and the little boy has been separated from the group while she works on turning this bad habit around. Although my little social butterfly can't stand it that this little boy has to be on the other side of the divider and goes between the group and the quarantine area handing him toys and books.

13 months - cont.

did i mention that Cash now has 8 teeth.

13 months (a little early)

Cash is walking and talking like crazy right now. He spent the entire Superbowl walking around Uncle Rob's house talking in his own little language. He is also making the funniest, dirty faces ever. He scrunches up his face and furrows his brow. Sometimes he even rolls his eyes at you. I can only laugh at this because i know he doesn't know what he's doing - or maybe he does!!?
He had a very exciting weekend with Grammy and Pop and Larry and Louise - i'm exhausted. He is always so well behaved. He has had some trouble going to sleep lately - probably because he would rather be walking around babbling. Once he gets into his bed he falls asleep within a few minutes. I hate that he has to cry before he goes to sleep but i never have to let him cry for long.
He is now into using a fork/spoon to feed himself. Usually this results in more food on the floor (and ultimately in the dogs mouth) than in Cash's tummy so i still have to watch him and help him out but he insists on feeding himself.
Cash is still into saying "uh oh" when he drops or throws things but now he is onto a "daddy" and "dadda" kick. For minutes at a time he will just repeat "dadda" over and over. I thought he was just saying it but now i know he really knows what it means because if Chandler walks through the room Cash smiles and the rate at which the "dadda's" are coming out of his mouth increases - and not to mention he throws his hands in the air asking Chandler to pick him up. I think he says Slider sometimes but we'll need a few more tests before i can confirm that. He can also "roar" like a lion when we read the book about the yellow lion.
His favorite toys are the rock/roll horse, the old laptop that Chandler gave him, the learn/sing table, the baseball T & bat and any & all building blocks. He could sit and play with the blocks for hours. he likes when I build towers so he can knock them down. he like to put the pieces together and then take them apart. He loves to throw the blocks into the wagon. He loves his blocks.
He continues to smile and laugh a lot. He is a great baby - err, i mean boy!
