Cash is into saying "no" and "i no like ...". every night when we put him to bed we say good night to everyone in the family. it helps him to know that the night is over and its time for bed - it is litterally the last thing we do before we turn the light off. Tonight Chandler is putting him to bed and i hear him screaming at the top of his lungs, "i no say nigh-night to Wiley", "I no say nigh-nigh to Archer", and so on through the ranks.

Cash and I had a full blow conversation today. I don't know why i am surprised when this happens - i guess its just shocking that my baby, who only months ago was saying one or two words at a time, can have conversations. Today's went like this.
ME: "Cash, what did you do at Sylvia's today"
CR: "Played with Emma. Not Gabby. Gabby went to timeout."
ME: "Oh no, Gabby went to timeout?"
CR: "yeah, She was naughty."
ME: "what did she do?"
CR: "She was fightin' with Emma"
ME: "did Cash have to go to timeout?"
CR: "no, Cash was a good boy."

Cash is also getting better at watching TV. He's still not the Wiley type kid that can watch a hour straight but he can watch a 20 minute Elmo's world and stay pretty interested and only walk away a couple times.
Yesterday i worked a full day - a full day of meetings that started promptly at 8am! To get two kids dressed, fed, packed and out the door by 7:15 we started early! At 5:30am I got up, pumped, got showered and dressed. Cash woke up at 6am so while Chandler and I were trying to get dressed he was messing around. Things spiraled out of control quickly when he didn't want to get dressed. I gave him pudding for breakfast because it was easier than fighting with him and it was something i could barter with in order to get him to get his clothes on. anyway, we did it. Everyone got out the door and I got to work on time. As much as i set things up to go the night before there was still a lot to do in the morning. i hope i get better at this for when i got back full time.

nine-to-five

walking out the door this morning Cash says, "i go to work." Chandler asked him if he worked at syliva's. he said "no, i work at the store."

Cash is also semi-obsessed with toots. he points out whenever he toots or cooper toots. he even told his daddy that, "cash tooted two times."

this morning while snuggling in bed before we were all ready to go downstairs Cooper was laughing and cooing and Cash said, "Cooper makes funny noises". Cash loves to mimic the noises Cooper makes and will "talk" to him and gets tickled when Cooper "responds" with a coo.

Cash says...

"You're silly daddy."

and

"Ewww, I eat the muck" - Chandler and I both whipped around and found him with his tounge between his toes. ewww is right.

observations

Cooper had little-to-no baby acne. Cash had a ton.
Cooper has the most awesome dimple on his left cheek. Its hard to get a picture of it so you'll have to take my word for it but its enough to make you want to eat him.

Big Day

Cash had a big day starting at 6am. he woke up and played while mommy actually got to sleep in a little with Cooper - thank you Chandler!!
We all got dressed and went to the Children's museum.
sidebar: I have never wanted to move so badly as i did when we pulled up to the Children's museum today (which is in a terrible part of town). There were homeless people camped out all over the parking lot and front entrance. Yucky. this town has no good places for children. There is really only this little rinky-dink "museum" in a neighborhood that you don't even want to go into. But we went and Cash had a wonderful time.
He played for hours. There were a lot of people there but not as many as i imagine there would be if it weren't such a nice day outside. On the way home he fell asleep in the car and then went for a short 1.5 hour nap when we got home.
Cash and I went on a bike ride around the neighborhood - we actually crossed the big street - but it got cold and windy by the end and I ended up carrying Cash and the bike home.
Later Addison came over for about 2 hours and they played. Mostly they played in the play room but they also did puzzles and colored. Addison used our potty and Cash jumped into action, running in to the kitchen and grabbing his stool for Addie to use. He politely knocked on the bathroom door (anyone who has been to our house knows that you better lock the bathroom door when Cash is around) and offered her his stool.
Addie went home and Cash fell asleep in about 10 minutes. Hopefully he will sleep soundly and a little later tomorrow morning.

a tale of two bikes

Cash has two bikes. Lately (and probably for the rest of his life) he loves being outside. Sylvia tells me that he spends all day outside - even when everyone else comes inside he just stays out and plays. He has a great little radio flyer bike with mini training wheels. He loves this bike but it is definitely his backyard bike. I don't like him to have it out in the street because he can't maneuver it very well when a car comes. It also doesn't have breaks so when he gets going down the hill he usually gets out of control and falls over. So in order for him to be able to go out in the street and take his bike on our family walks we needed to get him something else. We picked up a little plastic tricycle with a place for a push bar (that instead of spending $25 on we used an old broom stick that works just fine!) Obviously a tricylce is lower to the ground so he doesn't tip over as much and getting out of the road is much easier when mom or dad "takes the wheel". the problem now is that Cash can't decide which bike he wants to ride and just spends all day going from the backyard on his bike to the front street with his tricycle. I am glad that he likes to spend so much time outside and enjoys being active. it really makes him sleep much better too.

Cooper spent the day at Sylvia's yesterday so i could go into the office for some meetings. Not too much to report. Everyone did fine. Sylvia's only comment was that Cooper smiled at her all day long. That's nice to know. Cash was a big helper too. He told me that he helped give Cooper his blanket and bottles. I asked him if Cooper was a good boy, of course he replied, "yup". Then I asked if Cooper got in trouble, he said, "yup" - who knows when Cash is telling the truth!!
I'm toying with the idea of going back to work early - part time, maybe 2 days a week. Not until next moth but i'm thinking about it...

i love my boys so much. more and more each day.

Monday, February 15, 2010

Cash is getting more excited about the potty. or the TOILET as Cash calls it. Today he pooped on the toilet at Sylvia's - good timing on Sylvia's part probably. So he was really excited about that and tonight before he went to bed he tried to pee in the toilet. Poor thing couldn't go - not for lack of trying - but he kept telling us that he was going pee in the toilet. so this is good stuff. there is no pressure from us. we're just going to let him do his thing. Although chandler and i have different "styles". Chandler had Cash standing next to the toilet with his little penis resting on the bowl. I would have probably put him on the seat. When i told Chandler this Cash overheard and wanted to sit so he did and then thought it was really funny to try to "fall in".

knock on wood

i can't believe i'm actually tempting fate like this but here it goes...
as i was watching Cash down a full burger-cheese, oranges and potatoes tonight i thought to myself Cash is an incredibly healthy boy. he's never thrown up or had diarrhea or had an ear infection.

Cash likes

Cash is amazing us every day. Now he will tell us if he likes something. the best part of this is that he says things like, "I like mommy" or "I like daddy".
He also likes to ride his bike and wants to be outside every waking minute. which is fine except he wants both parents outside and will tell you with gusto to get outside. the only problem is that it isn't always ok for Cooper to be outside so we have to make some tough choices!
Cash can open all the doors - front door, garage door, back door - so we have to keep extra eyes on him now.
Today Cash was riding in the car with me and he crossed his arms and said, "I'm mad!" and then he said, "I'm mad at you". but he had a big old smile on his face like he thought it was funny or he was proud of himself so saying something new so i don't think he was really mad - i don't even know if he understands the feeling of "mad".

papa-paparazzi

One of my New Years resolutions is to use my camera more. i use it a lot but i don't use all the settings or the computer editing programs that come with it. i'm slowly reading about how to use the manual setting and trying to be more creative with my shots. So if you are wondering why my flickr is so crowded, now you know.

Cooper at 2 months

Cooper had his 2 month check up today and is doing really well.

12 pounds, 12 ounces
23.5 inches long
38.7 cm head

He's happy and healthy and gets check marks for all the developmental milestones. Cooper is starting to sleep longer and has a pretty reliable internal clock.

don't forget about me

Chandler gets left in the dust a little these days and that's sad i think. I even sort of forgot our anniversary. Hard to do - i know. He is an amazing daddy and i can honestly say i couldn't do any of this without him. he takes the lead role with Cash while I'm with the baby and he has watched the baby for a few days while i've been at work. he's awesome!!!
He has a job interview at a new school next week. we really hope that he can get the job since the school is in the same neighborhood as the old school and we wouldn't have to change too much of our routine if he works there. He got a new pair of pants today and we'll pick out a nice shirt and tie for the interview on the 18th. I know he'll do great and the principal would be a fool not to hire this amazing man. He is kind and patient and smart and funny and genuine and fantastic and...

...AND STAY OUT

ok, i know i owe everyone an update but things have been a little crazy around here to say the least...

In the past 4 weeks - scratch that - in the past 8 weeks we've had a lot of guests. That is to be expected with a new baby but this got a little out of hand. Although I enjoyed every minute of everyone's visit. We've had Grammy twice, Grandma and Poppy twice, Sarah and Allison and even Pop came to visit! I've tried to keep the sheets on the guest bed clean but i think i lost track at some point. Grammy was an AWESOME help and we love it when she comes because we get to have a little break and she doesn't judge if the house is dirty! She came so I could spend a very long week at work for Market. That was hard and i couldn't do it without Mom's help. It was especially hard because I really felt like Cooper was so young and we hadn't quite "bonded" yet and to be away from him felt like taking a few steps back. We got through it and i think it helped me even more to see how much Grammy fell in love with Cooper.

I'll admit it, I was having a hard time with this little guy - until now. He was a really hard baby the first few weeks but i think we've got it all figured out and now he is eating really well, pooping really, really well and he's even starting to sleep on a schedule. We go for his 2 month check tomorrow (with shots) and I have no doubt that we will get an A+. I wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago when he would only poop every 7-8 days, had nose-hair-seering toots, painful gas bubbles, wouldn't sleep and was uncomfortable nursing. I think all our problems were steming from the nursing issues. Poor guy - it was like he was trying to drink from a fire hose. Needless to say that was an uncomfortable experience and gave him very painful gas and he wasn't eating enough at one time (he was just plain old hungry!). Cooper really turned a corner at about 7 weeks with a huge poop (the morning that i had to be at Market early) that opened him up and made him really happy. Now we feed him mostly from bottles. I still nurse him for a little "baby & mommy" time after i've pumped. He is starting to talk and coo and smile now and Cash likes to try to make him talk. He is really a great addition to our family.

Cash has also gone through a huge adjustment in the past few weeks. As mentioned in earlier blogs, Cash has realized that he can get up out of bed and walk out the door. This was just the beginning of some really ugly bedtimes in the Martin household. We (Chandler) were spending hours trying to get Cash to stay in his room and fall asleep. He was so tired, going to bed late, waking up early - not good things for a little boy who really needs and likes sleep. He was probably reeling from all the visitors and a new little brother. I hated to do it and its probably a controversial topic but we decided to get a child-safe attachment for the door knob that Cash cannot open. I was really worried to put this on the knob because I didn't want Cash to start getting into mischeif in his room since there were sure to be hidden dangers in there. Well, it has seemed to work. We put it on during a nap time one afternoon so it wasn't a scary thing at night and left the door cracked so he could open the door. Then we closed the door after he woke up and talked about how only mommy or daddy could open the door now. We've also tried to keep his dummy and blanket in his room more (this is a gradual thing since he was relying on it pretty heavily for the past couple weeks). The past 3 nights have been great. a little crying but nothing like what we've been going through. This morning was a really positive experience also, he woke up and started knocking on his door to let me know he was awake and ready to get up. The funniest part was that when i got him out he had shoes on over his pajama feet, a headband, hat and some other random items from his room. Cash is an absolute joy. He is funny and loving and curious and smart. We have the best conversations and he is really aware of everything.

I've been trying to keep up with work. they expect it, i like my job, i get paid. I try to go in for meetings when I can, i keep up with my emails and join conference calls from home. It will help me stay out of the office for a little while longer as well. I'm not sure how things are going to work when i go back full time - work will have to be patient with me. Maybe we'll all have to adjust what we consider "full time".

So now you know why i haven't blogged in a while. i've been a little busy ok~!
